The Eternals is one of the projects expected to be unveiled during Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. The panel will reveal what president Kevin Feige and Co. have planned as Phase 3 has now been concluded and the MCU moves into Phase 4.

It was recently announced that Salma Hayek (The Hitman’s Bodyguard) may join the movie, though it wasn’t specified which character she would play. Angelina Jolie is rumored to be playing Sersi in the film. After Sersi, the most prominent female Eternal is Thena. It’s possible that Hayek could portray Thena, if that character is in the script.

Richard Madden (Game of Thrones) is said to be playing Ikaris. Kumail Nanjiani also has an undisclosed role in The Eternals alongside South Korean actor Ma Dong-seok.

The Eternals is based upon Jack Kirby’s comic of the same name. That series introduced a group of immortals called the Eternals and their rivals, the Deviants. Within the comics, Thanos and the other inhabitants of Titan were also Eternals. It’s unclear if the MCU will maintain that connection.

Chloe Zhao is directing The Eternals from a script by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. The Eternals appears to be on track for a release date in 2020.
