Clifford the Big Red Dog Adds Jack Whitehall, Darby Camp as Leads

Darby Camp (Big Little Lies) and Jack Whitehall (Jungle Cruise) have joined Paramount’s Clifford the Big Red Dog adaptation in lead roles, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Camp, known for playing Reese Witherspoon’s daughter on HBO’s Big Little Lies and starring on AMC’s NOS4A2 horror series, will play Clifford’s owner, Emily Elizabeth. Hall, the British comedian who has previously starred in Fresh Meat, Bad Education, and will appear alongside Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt in the upcoming Jungle Cruise, will play Emily’s uncle.

Clifford, the Big Red Dog, based on the books by Norman Bridwell, will see Emily (Camp) struggling to fit in at home and at school, discover a small red puppy who is destined to become her best friend. When Clifford magically undergoes one heck of a growth spurt, becomes a gigantic dog and attracts the attention of a genetics company, Emily and her Uncle Casey (Whitehall) have to fight the forces of greed as they go on the run across New York City. Along the way, Clifford affects the lives of everyone around him and teaches Emily and her uncle the true meaning of acceptance and unconditional love.

The movie was written by Jay Scherick, David Ronn, Annie Mumolo, and Stan Chervin. Walt Becker is directing the project. The feature is scheduled to begin shooting this June in New York. Jordan Kerner and Scholastic Entertainment’s Deborah Forte will produce.

Clifford, the Big Red Dog is scheduled to hit theaters on November 13, 2020.
