Mattel and MGM Team Up for View-Master Feature Film

The toy giant Mattel and MGM Studios have partnered together to develop a live-action motion picture based on Mattel’s classic toy line View-Master. The toy was first introduced roughly 75 years ago, and is a small, handheld device with several interchangeable discs that let users see images in eye-popping 3D.

Since the 1940s, View-Master® has inspired wonder and joy in children of all ages, creating huge opportunities for storytelling,” said Mattel’s Head of Film Robbie Brenner. “MGM Pictures has tremendous expertise and a proven track record in capturing audiences’ imagination through film, and we’re proud to be partnering with them to bring another Mattel franchise to theaters. This marks another important milestone as we transform Mattel into an IP-driven, high-performing toy company.”

Mattel Films and MGM will co-produce the film. Brenner will oversee production alongside and Cassidy Lange, MGM’s Co-President of Production will oversee production.

This is the second recent collaboration between Mattel and MGM, the first being a feature film based on the American Girl dolls. Beyond its partnership with MGM, Mattel is actively starting up new potential franchises based on all its major brands, including live-action movies based on Hot Wheels, Masters of the Universe, and Barbie, starring Margot Robbie as the eponymous doll, who will also produce.
