Black-ish Spinoff Grown-ish Gets a Third Season at Freeform

Grown-ish is officially getting a third season. The Black-ish spinoff, which is currently in its second season, was given the green light for season number three Tuesday morning, as reported by Variety.

The show is currently the top-rated comedy on cable among women 18-49 and females 12-34, as well as the second-most popular cable comedy among women 18-34. It also ranks third for adults ages 18-34. Given that these are all coveted demographics, its renewal by Freeform was almost certain.

At Freeform, our shows are uncompromising and bullish on what’s possible when young adults are empowered to be themselves and share their voice about the things that define them and their generation,” said Freeform president Tom Ascheim.

The Black-ish spinoff is a half-hour comedy tackling current social issues and complexities facing both students and administrators. The story follows Zoey (Yara Shahidi), as she tries to navigate the ins and outs of college life at Cal U. Given the protagonists younger age, the show allows itself to look at contemporary social and political issues through a young, idealistic lens.

The series is produced by ABC Signature Studios and is executive produced by Kenya Barris, Helen Sugland, E. Brian Dobbins, Anthony Anderson, Laurence Fishburne and Julie Bean.
