Jennifer Lopez’s Blood Ties Cop Drama in Development at NBC

Deadline brings word that NBC is developing a new cop drama, Blood Ties, from executive producers Jennifer Lopez (Shades of Blue), Vincent Laresca, and Tom Szentgyorgi (The Mentalist).

Blood Ties, written by Szentgyorgi, is a procedural crime show in the vein of NYPD Blue and is based on an idea by Laresca. When convicted homicide detective Steve Horvath is exonerated, he’s given his job back but finds he now has unconventional insight about the criminals he faces. Teaming up with an unexpected rookie who has a secret agenda of his own, Horvath must learn to adapt to life outside of prison while trying to figure out who framed him and why.

Lopez and Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas’ Nuyorican Productions will executive produce with Szentgyorgi, Lopez’ manager Benny Medina, Universal TV, and Jennifer Davisson for Appian Way with Appian’s Michael Hampton shepherding the project. Kristel Lailblin, Nuyorican’s head of development, will co-executive produce.

Lopez’s last scripted project was starring in and executive producing the cop drama series Shades of Blue, which recently ended after three seasons on NBC and was produced by Nuyorican Productions and Universal TV. She is currently executive producing Freeform’s Good Trouble, and will next be seen onscreen in the romance-comedy Second Act, arriving in theaters on December 14.
