Katherine Langford to Lead Frank Miller’s Cursed for Netflix

According to The Hollywood Reporter13 Reasons Why breakout star Katherine Langford has signed on to star in the lead role of Cursed, the upcoming Netflix adaptation of the young adult novel from Tom Wheeler and Frank Miller.

Cursed is based on Miller and Wheeler’s upcoming illustrated YA book of the same name, and follows a key character from the King Arthur story, the Lady of the Lake. This is apparently the first time the same creative team will be writing a book and the adapted TV series version simultaneously, which will allow Miller and Wheeler to explore their characters from the book in more detail on screen. The book, slated to be published in fall of 2019 by Simon & Schuster, will be written by Wheeler (The Lego Ninjago Movie) with Miller (Sin City) providing full-color and black-and-white illustrations.

In the reimagining, Cursed is told through the eyes of Nimue (Langford), a teenage heroine with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful (and tragic) Lady of the Lake. After her mother’s death, she finds an unexpected partner in Arthur, a young mercenary, in a quest to find Merlin and deliver an ancient sword. Over the course of her journey, Nimue will become a symbol of courage and rebellion against the terrifying Red Paladins, and their complicit King Uther.

Langford earned a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in the first season of the controversial Netflix drama 13 Reasons Why and though her character’s role ended in the second season, the show will return with a third in 2019 and was most recently seen in the critically-acclaimed and box office hit Love, Simon and can be seen in the upcoming fantasy sci-fi thriller Spontaneous, which is set to release sometime next year.

Netflix has given the project a 10-episode order, which will be executive produced by creators Miller and Wheeler.
