Netflix Cancels Joel McHale and Michelle Wolf's Series

Netflix Cancels Joel McHale and Michelle Wolf’s Series

After only a few months of life on the streaming service, Netflix has given the axe to both Joel McHale and Michelle Wolf’s talk shows, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The two comedians had a considerable amount of buzz surrounding their shows thanks to the largely positive reviews critics were giving to the series and Wolf’s highly-talked about hosting gig at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, but unfortunately for them this buzz didn’t carry over into the viewership numbers, driving Netflix to have to pull the plug on both shows.

The streaming service has been working to break out into the talk-show field, but has yet to find a successful avenue, having cancelled nearly all of its talk shows thus far including McHale and Wolf’s and Chelsea Handler’s self-named series, which ran for two seasons before being cancelled.

McHale, who previously had his own talk show on E! titled The Soup, and Wolf, who just recently became an alum of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, had both expressed enthusiasm working with Netflix, as the streaming service was more open to giving them control of their shows and their humor, with McHale recounting to THR how his former network criticized him for constantly joking about the Kardashians on his series.

Despite these cancellations, Netflix does have three new comedy talk shows set for release this fall including Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj, hosted by The Daily Show alum, Norm Macdonald Has a Show and The Fix, which features a panel made up of Jimmy Carr, Katherine Ryan and D.L. Hughley.
