No Plans for Sabrina/Riverdale Crossover, New Spin-off in Development

While Riverdale fans anxiously await the October 10 premiere of the season three, the show’s creator, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, revealed at TCA on Monday that there were currently no plans for a crossover between series and its upcoming sister show The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. He did, however, let loose that another spinoff is in the works, though he was coy with the details.

Throughout the morning, CW president Mark Pedowitz had shot down all rumors of a crossover, and also clarified no one from Riverdale would be making a cameo appearance on the Netflix drama. After confirming Pedowitz’s remarks, Aguirre-Sacasa elaborated on the lack of plans. “I think right now we’re just making sure that the shows have their own identities and own set of rules.”

Later, during the panel and with Riverdale’s parent cast Luke Perry, Mark Conseulos, Lochlyn Munro, Marisol Nichols, Mädchen Amick and Nathalie Boltt seated beside him, Aguirre-Sacasa declared another spinoff was indeed in the works at the CW. “We’re still early on in the process and it will be very different from Riverdale,” he said, while also noting this spinoff would be “in this development cycle.”

KJ Apa stars as Archie Andrews in the series along with Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Ashleigh Murray as Josie McCoy, Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones and Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom. The series also stars Mark Consuelos, Casey Cott, Skeet Ulrich, Mädchen Amick, Luke Perry and Vanessa Morgan

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will premiere on Netflix on October 26. Kiernan Shipka stars as Sabrina in the new series and is joined by Lucy Davis, Miranda Otto, Chance Perdomo, Michelle Gomez, Jaz Sinclair, Richard Coyle, Ross Lynch, and Bronson Pinchot in the cast.
