Lauren Ridloff Joins The Walking Dead Season 9 as Connie

Lauren Ridloff, the 2018 Tony-nominated deaf actress who was recognized in the Best Performance by an Actress in Leading Role in a Play category for Children of a Lesser God, has been cast in the ninth season of The Walking Dead, EW has confirmed.

Ridloff will play the character of Connie in a multi-episode arc. She is described as a seasoned survivor deft at using her senses to read people, situations, and trouble. Her character uses American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate. Connie does appear in the comics as part of a new group of survivors who follow a leader named Magna and it is highly possible Ridloff is playing the television version of that character.

Based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics, The Walking Dead tells the story of the months and years that follow after a zombie apocalypse, and follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, who travel in search of a safe and secure home. The ninth season will jump forward in time following the events of the group’s All Out War with Negan and his Saviors and will highlight a changing infrastructure in the physical world as Rick works to build the more peaceful utopia that his late son, Carl, envisioned.

The series stars Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan, Chandler Riggs, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Lennie James, Alanna Masterson, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, Austin Amelio, Tom Payne, Xander Berkeley, Khary Payton, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Fans will have the chance to learn more about what’s in store for next season of The Walking Dead during the 2018 Comic-Con panel that will take place on Friday, July 20 from 12:15 p.m.-1:15 p.m. PT in Hall H following Fear the Walking Dead. Panelists include Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Executive producer and showrunner Angela Kang, executive producers Scott M. Gimple, Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, and executive producer, director and special effects make-up supervisor Greg Nicotero will also attend the panel moderated by Yvette Nicole Brown.
