April Bowlby to Play Elasti-Woman in Doom Patrol

Deadline is reporting that April Bowlby (Drop Dead Diva) will be reprising her role as Rita Farr, aka Elasti-Woman/Elasti-Girl, in the DC Universe live-action series Doom Patrol as a lead. The character will first be seen in a guest-starring role on DC Universe’s Titans series. Doom Patrol will be written by Jeremy Carver (Supernatural) and comes from Greg Berlanti and Warner Bros TV.

Doom Patrol is a re-imagining of one of DC’s most beloved group of outcast Super Heroes: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Girl (Bowlby), and Crazy Jane, led by modern-day mad scientist Dr. Niles Caulder (The Chief). The Doom Patrol’s members each suffered horrible accidents that gave them superhuman abilities – but also left them scarred and disfigured. Traumatized and downtrodden, the team found purpose through The Chief, who brought them together to investigate the weirdest phenomena in existence — and to protect Earth from what they find.

Part support group, part Super Hero team, the Doom Patrol is a band of super-powered freaks who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them. Picking up after the events of TitansDoom Patrol will find these reluctant heroes in a place they never expected to be, called to action by none other than Cyborg, who comes to them with a mission hard to refuse, but with warning that is hard to ignore: their lives will never, ever be the same.

The Doom Patrol characters will appear in the fifth episode of Berlanti’s DC Universe live-action drama Titans, with Bruno Bichir, April Bowlby, Jack Michaels, and Dwain Murphy starring. The direct-to-series order of 13 episodes will be written by Supernatural‘s Jeremy Carver and will be executive produced by Berlanti, Geoff Johns, Jeremy Carver, and Sarah Schechter.

Doom Patrol will be executive produced by Carver along with Geoff Johns and Berlanti and Sarah Schechter for Berlanti Productions, who is producing in association with Warner Bros. Television. The 13-episode straight-to-series season will begin production this year with a 2019 expected release.
