Jessica Alba has joined Gabrielle Union in NBC’s Bad Boys spinoff pilot

Jessica Alba (Fantastic FourSin City) has joined Gabrielle Union (Bring It OnBad Boys II) in the upcoming NBC pilot for the Bad Boys spinoff, according to Variety. Union will reprise the role of Syd Burnett from Bad Boys II and Jessica Alba will play “Nancy McKenna, Burnett’s partner. McKenna joined the Army out of high school and spent most of the 2000s in Iraq and Afghanistan. Women weren’t allowed in combat, so she joined the military police to get closer to the action. McKenna is now a detective raising two preteen step-kids with her husband.”

In the series, Burnett has left the DEA and now has a fresh start in her new job as an LAPD detective. She’s partnered with Nancy McKenna, a working mom who can’t help but look at Syd’s freedom with some grass-is-greener envy. These two have totally different lifestyles and approaches, but they both are at the top of their fields in this action-packed, character-driven procedural.

The as-yet-untitled show is written by The Blacklist writers-producers Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier. Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the Bad Boys movies, and Doug Belgrad, who worked on the franchise as well, will executive produce the series with Jonathan Littman and KristieAnne Reed.

Bad Boys II was released in theaters in 2003. The sequel to the 1995 original film went on to gross $273 million worldwide (the first film earned $141 million). It starred Will Smith and Martin Lawrence plus Jordi Mollà, Peter Stormare, Theresa Randle and Joe Pantoliano. A third Bad Boys film, entitled Bad Boys for Life, has just signed Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah to direct.
