Rock icon Nancy Wilson named executive music producer for the series Muscle Shoals

Rock icon Nancy Wilson from the band Heart has been named executive music producer for the upcoming series Muscle Shoals, according to Deadline. Johnny Depp and Christi Dembrowski’s Infinitum NihilSir Richard Branson’s Virgin Produced, and Joshua D. Maurer and Alixandre Witlin’s City Entertainment will serve as the producers on the series based on Rick Hall’s autobiography, The Man From Muscle Shoals: My Journey from Shame to Fame. In addition, Emmy-nominated Bettina Gilois (Bessie) will write the series.

Executive producers include Depp, Dembrowski, Bobby DeLeon of Infinitum Nihil, Jason Felts, Justin Berfield and Rene Rigal at Virgin Produced, Maurer and Wilton for City Entertainment and Gred “Freddy” Camalier, who directed the documentary Muscle Shoals. Geoff Bywater of Roadcase Productions will also music executive produce.

Nancy Wilson and her sister Anne were the front women for the rock group Heart, which brought us songs like “Magic Man, “Crazy On You” and “Barracuda.” She has composed music for films like Almost FamousJerry MaguireSay Anything and Vanilla Sky.

Bettina Gilois was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a TV Movie for HBO’s Bessie. She is also known for her work on Glory Road and The Lost Wife of Robert Durst.

The Muscle Shoals series is inspired by the true-life roller-coaster story of legendary record producer, songwriter, publisher and musician Rick Hall, founder of the modern day “Muscle Shoals Sound,” and his extraordinary career establishing FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Muscle Shoals became the epicenter for recording some of the most iconic songs in history under the vision and inspiration of the Grammy Trustees Award-winner Hall. Some of the legendary musicians from an all-star list of artists who created beloved and popular hit music classics at FAME include Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Etta James, Percy Sledge, Otis Redding, Clarence Carter, and Arthur Alexander.
