Apple Orders Space Race Drama from Battlestar Galactica Creator

Apple orders Space Race drama from Battlestar Galactic creator

Deadline reports that Ronald D. Moore, who brought back the sci-fi series Battlestar Galactica to television, has developed a new drama that has been given a straight-to-series order by Apple.

Moore co-created the series with Fargo co-executive producers Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi. The series will explore what would have happened if the global space race had never ended. The project hails from Sony Pictures Television and Moore’s Tail Ship Productions.

Space-themed dramas have been a staple of Moore’s career whose other credits include Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, CapricaCarnivàle, and Outlander. His next series is Amazon’s Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams, which premieres next month.

Moore’s drama is the third original series ordered by Apple, including a morning show drama starring and executive produced by Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, and a reboot of the Steven Spielberg series Amazing Stories from Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller.

Earlier this year, Apple hired Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht from Sony Television specifically to create original programming for the tech giant. How this original content will be made available to viewers remains to be seen.
