Community Creator Dan Harmon Removed as Showrunner

NBC’s cult favorite series “Community” completed its third season this week with fans delighted to have already learned that Greendale Community College will be reopening its doors for a 13-episode fourth season. Tonight’s news is a bit more grim, however, as The Hollywood Reporter brings word that creator Dan Harmon has been replaced by David Guarascio and Moses Port (“Just Shoot Me”) as the series’ co-showrunners and executive producers.

Though the trade suggests that Harmon will remain aboard as a “consulting producer,” Harmon took to his own Tumblr with a decidedly less-encouraging update.

“You may have read that I am technically ‘signed on’ by default, to be an executive consulting something or other,” Harmon writes, “which is a relatively standard protective clause for a creator in my position. Guys like me can’t actually just be shot and left in a ditch by Skynet, we’re still allowed to have a title on the things we create and ‘help out,’ like, I guess sharpening pencils and stuff.”

Both humorous and impassioned, Harmon’s full piece can be read by clicking here.
