Roswell reboot in development at The CW
A Roswell reboot is in the works at The CW, ComingSoon.net has learned. The project comes from Amblin Television and Bender Brown Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television.
Carina Adly MacKenzie (The Originals) will executive produce and write the one-hour drama, based on the “Roswell High” book series by Melinda Metz. The executive producers also include Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank, Lawrence Bender, and Kevin Kelly Brown, who was an executive producer on the original series.
The synopsis: After reluctantly returning to her tourist-trap hometown of Roswell, New Mexico, the daughter of undocumented immigrants discovers a shocking truth about her teenage crush who is now a police officer: he’s an alien who has kept his unearthly abilities hidden his entire life. She protects his secret as the two reconnect and begin to investigate his origins, but when a violent attack and long-standing government cover-up point to a greater alien presence on Earth, the politics of fear and hatred threaten to expose him and destroy their deepening romance.
Bender Brown have just completed production on the drama series Seven Seconds for Netflix and were nominated for a Golden Globe last year for their Starz limited series Flesh and Bone.
The original Roswell series aired on The WB for its first two seasons from 1999-2001, with its third and final season airing on UPN. It starred Shiri Appleby, Jason Behr, Katherine Heigl, Brendan Fehr, Emilie de Ravin, Majandra Delfino, Nick Wechsler, Colin Hanks, Adam Rodriguez, and William Sadler.
