CBS announces an official date for Bob Newhart’s return to The Big Bang Theory for Season 11

Bob Newhart is returning as the late Arthur Jeffries/Professor Proton in The Big Bang Theory Season 11, according to THR. The CBS Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television show just returned for its eleventh season this week and will continue to air on Mondays at 8PM until it moves to its regular slot on Thursdays at 8PM on November 2. Bob Newhart will reprise the role in the November 2 episode. The last time he appeared on the show was in Season 9 in “The Opening Night Excitation,” where his deceased character appeared as a ghostly Jedi to Sheldon (Jim Parson).

When Bob Newhart appeared in Season 9, it was to help Sheldon deal with consummating his relationship for the first time with Amy (Mayim Bialik). The episode for November 2 has yet to film and there are no details about his role. Wil Wheaton is also set to reprise his role in that episode.

The Big Bang Theory, which premiered in September 2007, has been television’s #1 comedy in viewers since 2010-2011 and continues as the #1 comedy in key demographics. The Big Bang Theory stars Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch. Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady and Steven Molaro are executive producers. The series is from Chuck Lorre Productions, Inc., in association with Warner Bros. Television. Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady are series creators.
