We won’t see the continuing adventures of a young William Shakespeare any longer. The TV series Will has been canceled after a single season by TNT, according to Deadline. The show told a fictional version of the life of the bard when he was in his early 20s. The series starred newcomer Laurie Davidson in the title role as well as Olivia DeJonge (The VisitHiding) as Alice Burbage, Ewen Bremmer (TransportingSnowpiercer) as Richard Topcliffe, Colm Meaney (Star Trek: Deep Space NineHell on Wheels) as James Burbage, Mattias Inwood (The Shannara Chronicles) as Richard Burbage, Jamie Campbell Bower (CamelotThe Twilight Saga) as Christopher Marlowe, William Houston (Sherlock Holmes) as Kemp and Max Bennett (99 Francs) as Southwell.

Will was executive produced by Craig Pearce, Shekhar Kapur, Alison Woen, Debra Hayward, Vince Gerardis, Howard Braunstein and Louise Rosager. It was produced by Andrew Wood, Jill Bilcock and Mary Richards. The freshman drama had a single season of 10 episodes and premiered on TNT on July 10, 2017. It was moved from its 9pm shot after four weeks and shown at 11pm.

Will was the story of a young William Shakespeare who was struggling as a playwright and making gloves to support his wife and three children. When he goes to London, he manages to sell a play to a theater owned by James Burgage. He also falls in love with Burbage’s daughter Alice. He struggles to keep his Catholicism quiet, befriends a company of actors and keeps his connection to the criminal Robert Southwell a secret.
