Justified Producers Option Elmore Leonard Detroit Novels for Series

Justified executive producers have optioned Elmore Leonard Detroit novels for TV series

Justified executive producers Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman have optioned three of author Elmore Leonard’s Detroit novels for a new TV series, according to Deadline. The novels “Unknown Man #89,” “Pagan Babies” and “Mr. Paradise” have all be optioned and the pair are reportedly looking at other Detroit novels by Leonard. The Elmore Leonard-based series is being targeted for cable and streaming networks. Elmore Leonard has 12 novels set it in the city of Detroit.

The adaptation will be written by Door in the Floor‘s Tod “Kip” Williams and will feature a novel each season with crossover characters, something the books use as well. There may also be original seasons based on some of the characters in the story. Beverly and Timberman will executive produce alongside Elmore Leonard’s son Peter Leonard as well as kerry Schmidt.

Unknown Man #89 is described this way by Amazon as follows: “The twisty tale of a Detroit process server whose search for a missing stockholder leads him into more serious peril than he ever imagined possible.”

Pagan Babies is described as: “Father Terry Dunn thought he’d seen everything on the mean streets of Detroit, but that was before he went on a little retreat to Rwanda to evade a tax-fraud indictment. Now the whiskey-drinking, Nine Inch Nails T-shirt-wearing padre is back trying to hustle up a score to help the little orphans of Rwanda. But the fund-raising gets complicated when a former tattletale cohort pops up on Terry’s tail. And then there’s the lovely Debbie Dewey. A freshly sprung ex-con turned stand-up comic, Debbie needs some fast cash, too, to settle an old score. Now they’re in together for a bigger payoff than either could finagle alone. After all, it makes sense…unless Father Terry is working a con of his own.”

And Mr. Paradise is described as: “Mr. Paradise follows a smart Victoria’s Secret model’s attempt to score big after surviving a double murder in a millionaire’s mansion…with a lonely cop acting as spoiler.”

Justifed is based on Elmore Leonard’s short story “Fire in the Hole.” What do you think of the idea of the Elmore Leonard Detroit novels as a series? Let us know at @ComingSoonnet.
