X-Men Spinoff Series Hellfire Seeking New Showrunners

FOX’s planned X-Men spinoff series, Hellfire, is looking for a new creative team

Although FOX is still moving forward with plans for the X-Men spinoff series Hellfire, the network is now looking to do so with a different creative team than initially planned. Co-creators Evan Katz (24: Live Another Day), Manny Coto (24), Patrick McKay (Star Trek Beyond) and JD Payne (Star Trek Beyond) have, following the announcement earlier today, moved on to FOX’s upcoming 24 revival, 24: Legacy. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a new creative team for Hellfire is expected to be announced soon.

Produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Marvel Television, with 20th Century Fox handling the physical production, Hellfire follows a young Special Agent who learns that a power-hungry woman with extraordinary abilities is working with a clandestine society of millionaires – known as “The Hellfire Club” – to take over the world. Moviegoers will recall the Hellfire club’s role in Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class.

“‘Hellfire’ is a unique opportunity to be able to go deeper with some of these extraordinary characters, but to also dramatize new characters and give TV viewers a chance to experience this expanded world in an explosive way that everyone will be talking about,” said Jonathan Davis, President, Creative Affairs, 20th Century Fox Television when the series was first announced. “The action at the center of ‘Hellfire’ will be dynamic and will satisfy the rabid fans, but that said, newcomers will surely be addicted too!”

Lauren Shuler Donner, Bryan Singer, Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory are still set to executive-produce Hellfire, although the series will likely arrive in 2017 rather than later this year.

Hellfire was one of two X-Men series announced for development last year. The other, set up at FX Productions, is titled Legion and follows the schizophrenic David Haller who, as comic book fans are well aware, is the son of Professor Charles Xavier. That series is set to be written and executive produced by Fargo‘s Noah Hawley.
