Variety reports that David Nutter, the director/producer who is 14-for-14 in helming pilots that have earned series pickups, has signed on to direct and executive produce the pilot of “Eastwick,” Warner Bros. TV’s adaptation of 1987 hit The Witches of Eastwick for ABC.
Most recently, Nutter helmed the pilot of WBTV and CBS’ freshman sensation “The Mentalist.”
“Eastwick,” about three women who discover they have supernatural powers after a mysterious man arrives in their small town, appealed to Nutter because of the strength of the concept that writer/executive producer Maggie Friedman has developed for the series.
“She has come up with an amazing starting-off point — I can really see where the series is going to go,” Nutter told the trade. “She’s got a great bedrock of characters and a great mystery.”
