It’s Official: HBO’s True Detective Adds McAdams, Kitsch and Reilly

Although their names have been tied to the project for months, HBO officially announced today that Rachel McAdams (About Time, Midnight in Paris), Taylor Kitsch (“Friday Night Lights”, John Carter) and Kelly Reilly (Flight, Sherlock Holmes) are joining Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn for the highly-anticipated second season of “True Detective.”

In the second season, three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.

Colin Farrell will play Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him while Vince Vaughn is set to play Frank Semyon, a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.

Just announced, McAdams will play Ani Bezzerides, a Ventura County Sheriff’s detective whose uncompromising ethics put her at odds with others and the system she serves. Kitsch wills star as Paul Woodrugh, a war veteran and motorcycle officer for the California Highway Patrol, running from a difficult past and the sudden glare of a scandal that never happened. Finally, Reilly will play Jordan, Frank Semyon’s wife, a former D-list actress who is a full partner in his enterprises and ambitions.

The eight-episode, hour-long drama is set to begin production later this fall in California with Justin Lin directing the first two episodes. The series is created and written by Nic Pizzolatto.

The critically-acclaimed first season was directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga and starred Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Michelle Monaghan, Michael Potts and Tory Kittles.
