Screenwriter Zach Helm (Stranger Than Fiction) is pushing into television, setting up a one-hour drama project at ABC, reports Variety.
Helm and producing partner Jim Garavente are behind “Rockville 2020,” which they’ll produce via their Gang of Two in association with ABC Studios.
“Rockville 2020” will tell the story of a midsize town in Oregon “that is quickly becoming irrelevant,” Helm said.
“Their mayor decides to do something drastic to change the town, and that’s trying to get them a bid for the 2020 Olympics.”
In addition to exploring the town’s characters, the series will also examine a larger theological mystery.
Helm’s feature directorial debut is next month’s Dustin Hoffman-Natalie Portman starrer Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium. He’s in talks to direct his script The Disassociate for Warner Independent.
