Director Set for Grey’s Anatomy Spinoff

Helmer Michael Grossman has been hired to direct the two-hour episode that will serve as the pilot for ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” spinoff, reports Variety.

The episode, titled “My Favorite Mistake,” marks Grossman’s second visit to the “Grey’s” set in the past year. He directed the show’s 13th episode of the season, “Great Expectations.”

Helmer’s other credits range from episodes of “Charmed” and “One Tree Hill” to sci-fi series including “Star Trek: Enterprise,” “Angel,” “The Invisible Man” and “Dresden Files.”

“My Favorite Mistake” will serve as Grossman’s broadcast-network pilot directing debut.

The episode, whose plot remains shrouded in secrecy, will set up the possibility of Dr. Addison Shepherd (Kate Walsh) leaving Seattle Grace Hospital. It will also introduce Hector Elizondo (“Chicago Hope”) as Mr. Torres, father of Dr. Torres (Sara Ramirez).
