Mrs. American Pie: Carol Burnett Joins Apple TV+ Comedy Series

According to Deadline, comedy legend Carol Burnett (The Carol Brunett Show) is officially coming back to scripted television as she signs on to star opposite Kristen Wiig in Apple TV+’s forthcoming comedy Mrs. American Pie.

The Emmy winner is set to portray the role of Norma, the grande dame of Palm Beach high society, a keeper of secrets with more than a few of her own. Other than Wiig, Burnett will also be joining previously announced cast members Alison Janney, Laura Dern, Leslie Bibb, and Ricky Martin.

“A story about gorgeously impossible people, it follows Maxine Simmons’ (Wiig) attempt to secure her seat at America’s most exclusive table: Palm Beach high society,” reads the synopsis. “As Maxine attempts to cross that impermeable line between the haves and the have-nots, the series asks the same questions that still baffle us today: ‘Who gets a seat at the table?’ ‘How do you get a seat at the table?’ ‘What will you sacrifice to get there?'”

Set during the powder keg era of the early 1970s, Mrs. American Pie will be directed by Oscar nominee Tate Taylor (The Help) from a screenplay written by Abe Sylvia (Dead to Me), who will be serving as the showrunner.
