Ms. Marvel Featurette Highlights Teen Hero’s Powers & Biggest Conflict

Marvel Studios has dropped the Ms. Marvel featurette for Disney+’s newest Marvel Cinematic Universe series, featuring commentary from head writer Bisha K. Ali, Kevin Feige, directors, and Iman Vellani as they turned the spotlight to Kamala Khan. It will be available for streaming on Wednesday, June 8.

The video, which you can check out below (via USA Today), offers us a sneak peek into the Muslim teen hero’s life from awkward high school moments to family drama, and boy problems. It also highlights her superpowers, which is the ability to manifest light. They also discussed Kamala’s inner conflict about whether she deserves to become a superhero or not.

Ms. Marvel stars newcomer Iman Vellani in her acting debut as Kamala Khan, which also marks the live-action debut of the fan-favorite Marvel character. Joining Vellani are Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Naki, Azher Usman, Travina Springer, and Nimra Bucha.

“The series introduces Kamala Khan—a 16-year-old Pakistani American from Jersey City,” reads the official synopsis. “An aspiring artist, an avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, she is a huge fan of the Avengers—and one in particular, Captain Marvel. But Kamala has always struggled to find her place in the world—that is, until she gets superpowers like the heroes she’s always looked up to.”

Ms. Marvel is directed by executive producers Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, with executive producer Bisha K. Ali serving as head writer.

Following the series, Vellani’s teen hero will next be seen in Nia DaCosta’s Captain Marvel sequel titled The Marvels starring opposite Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris, which is currently set for a July 28, 2023 release.
