Kyle MacLachlan Joins Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in a Spoilerish Role!

Earlier today, we learned “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has added “NYPD Blue” star Henry Simmons to its recurring cast moving into season two. Now, TVLine reports that Kyle MacLachlan (Dune, Blue Velvet) is set to appear in another recurring part that sounds like it’s a bit of a spoiler! Cautious fans should avoid reading any further.

According to the outlet, the “Twin Peaks” star will play a part they describe as being “Skye’s father.” They do seem to stress, however, that this may be an imprecise term, meaning that it could range anything from “biological father” to “creator” to simply one of many adoptive fathers Skye would have had moving through foster care. He is, however, most certainly the man at the other end of the line of the phone call Ruth Negga’s Raina made in the first season finale and will appear in multiple episodes throughout season two.

MacLachlan and Simmons join newcomers Lucy Lawless (Isabelle Hartley), Reed Diamond (Daniel Whitehall), and Nick Blood (Lance Hunter) as well as the returning Clark Gregg (Director Coulson), Ming-Na Wen (Agent May), Brett Dalton (Grant Ward), Elizabeth Henstridge (Agent Simmons), Iain De Caestecker (Agent Fitz), and Chloe Bennet (Skye) when the series returns to ABC Tuesday, September 23 at 9:00pm.

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is Executive Produced by Joss Whedon (Marvel’s The Avengers, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”); Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen (“Dollhouse,” “Dr.Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog”); Jeffrey Bell (“Angel,” “Alias”); and Jeph Loeb (“Smallville,” “Lost,” “Heroes”).

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is produced by Marvel Television and ABC Studios. If you missed it, you can check out our coverage of the series’ recent Comic-Con panel.
