The Hollywood Reporter brings word today that Chronicle scribe Max Landis and IDW Entertainment have teamed up to bring the world of Douglas Adams’ character Dirk Gently to television. Landis will write the script for the series with Circle of Confusion’s Dave Alpert (“The Walking Dead”) producing.
Appearing in two novels, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul, Adams created the Gently character in 1987 and he has gone on to be adapted into radio plays and short-lived BBC television series. The first novel in the series is officially described as follows:
“Quirky and bumbling private investigator Dirk Gently stumbles upon a ghost, millions of years old, wandering the earth and disturbing its people. Dirk soon discovers this phantom yearns for more than a good haunting: it is desperately trying to go back in time to prevent its own death. But this ghost was no ordinary person, and helping it save itself just might change the modern world as we know it. And not in a good way ”
