The Cast and Crew of Gotham Talk About the Upcoming Series

FOX?s upcoming DC comics-inspired series “Gotham” held their very own panel at the Television Critics Association today and there the cast and crew of the series revealed some new details on the show.

Executive producer Bruno Heller discussed one of the overall arcs for the first season of the series, saying: “The first year is very much about the rise of the Penguin and his involvement with Fish Mooney.”

While Robin Lord Taylor, who plays Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin in the series, was asked about how he researched the role for the series, replying: “I watched Batman Returns like 500 times.”

The series will also deal with the beginnings of the legacy of many more villains and characters in the Batman mythos. Camren Bicondova, who plays Selina Kyle, spoke about her character and how she doesn’t know what the future holds.

“Selina Kyle doesn’t even know she’s going to become Catwoman,” she said. “She just knows she likes cats.”

Director Danny Canon, who helmed the pilot for “Gotham” as well as the debut episodes for “CSI,” “Nikita,” and “The Tomorrow People,” spoke about filming the series saying: “This is the first pilot I’ve worked on that I’ve treated like a movie.”

“Gotham” is an origin story of the great DC Comics super villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. From executive producer Bruno Heller (“The Mentalist,” “Rome”), “Gotham” follows one cop’s rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering on the edge of evil and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular super heroes of our time.

Also starring Ben McKenzie, Sean Pertwee, Zabryna Guevara, Erin Richards, Donal Logue, Jada Pinkett Smith,and David Mazouz, the series will premiere September 22 on FOX.
