The CW Picks Up The Flash and iZombie to Series!

The CW has confirmed today that they’ve picked up the “Arrow” spin-off “The Flash” and the Vertigo comic-based “iZombie” to series, with both set to air this fall.

“The Flash” arrives from co-creators Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg who, along with Geoff Johns, wrote the pilot episode which was helmed by “Arrow” pilot director David Nutter. Grant Gustin will star as the titular hero along with Candice Patton as Iris West, Jesse L. Martin as Iris’s father, Detective West, Michelle Harrison​ as Barry’s mother Nora Allen and many others, including John Wesley Shipp, from the original “The Flash” TV series, in an unspecified role. 

Based on the series created by Chris Roberson and Mike Allred, “iZombie” will be executive produced by “Veronica Mars” creator Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero and sees “Once Upon a Time” star Rose McIver in the lead role of Liv. In the series, Liv works in a coroner’s office, and in order to maintain her humanity she’ll be forced to dine on the brains of the deceased, but in doing so she will absorb their memories and use it to solve their murders, among other crimes.

In related news, The CW has also ordered to series “Jane the Virgin” and “The Messengers.”

In “Jane the Virgin,” a series of surprising and unforeseen events causes a hard-working, religious young Latina to be accidentally artificially inseminated. Adapted from a Venezuelan telenovela, the series stars Gina Rodriguez, Jaime Camil, Yael Grobglas, Brett Dier, Andrea Navedo, Justin Baldoni, Ivonne Coll and Ryan Devlin.

In “The Messengers,” when a mysterious object crashes down to Earth, a group of seemingly unconnected strangers dies from the energy pulse. But then they awaken to learn that they have been deemed responsible for preventing the impending apocalypse. Shantel VanSanten, Sofia Black-D’Elia, Joel Courtney, Jon Fletcher, Diogo Morgado and Craig Frank stars.

Also, The CW announced today it has renewed “The 100,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “Hart of Dixie.” “The Carrie Diaries,” “Star-Crossed” and “The Tomorrow People” will not be back next season, however.
