Hailee Steinfeld Boards Pitch Perfect 2

The upcoming Elizabeth Banks-directed Pitch Perfect 2 has added a brand new star to its lineup. Variety reports that Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit, Three Days to Kill) will be joining the cast in an undisclosed role.

Steinfeld joins the returning Banks, Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow and Rebel Wilson for the big screen sequel, set for release on May 15, 2015. It is noted that Steinfeld may be set up in the sequel to take over the franchise, should a Pitch Perfect 3 move forward.

The original Pitch Perfect grossed more than $115 million worldwide on a $17 million budget and was one of the top-performing DVD & VOD titles of 2013. The Pitch Perfect soundtrack recently went platinum with over 1 million units sold. The single ?Cups? is nearly triple platinum with combined sales of a little less than 3 million units sold. The soundtrack is also the #18 bestselling soundtrack of all time (ahead of Sound of Music, Yellow Submarine & The Great Gatsby); it is also the bestselling soundtrack in digital history, having recently surpassed Twilight.

Kay Cannon, who penned the original Pitch Perfect, is writing the screenplay for the sequel. Paul Brooks will return to produce for Gold Circle Films alongside Banks and Max Handelman for their Brownstone Productions shingle. Gold Circle?s Scott Niemeyer will executive produce and Kay Cannon is co-producing with Gold Circle?s Jeff Levine. Universal?s co-president of production Peter Cramer, who oversaw production on the first film, will return for Pitch Perfect 2.
