Whitley Streiber, whose 1987 book “Communion: A True Story” redefined non-fiction horror, is set to have his new novel, “Alien Hunters,” brought to the small screen. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that “The Walking Dead” executive producer Gale Anne Hurd is developing a series for Syfy based on the book (the first of a planned series).
Streiber, whose career as a novelist took a sharp turn in 1985 when he experienced what he believes to be a repeated series of extraterrestrial abductions, describes his new book as follows:
One of the things I have always wondered is, if aliens have criminals, do they also have cops? Judging from some of the stories people tell about close encounters, some aliens are darned near criminals, if not outright gangsters. I have to admit, Ive always dreamed of a little score-settling when it comes to the way some folks seem to be getting beat up. But not all. A lot of the close encounter experience is fun and interesting. The dark side though its there all right.
In “Alien Hunter,” which is the first in what will be a series, I have created a character, Flynn Carroll, a cop who ends up working with alien cops to clean up alien criminals on Earth. Flynn has a powerful motive: they took his wife and never returned her.
Hes a man obsessed. He wants revenge, and he wants his beloved Abby back. When hes recruited by the most secret police unit in the worldthe Alien Hunters he finds his true vocation and becomes the single most dangerous force any alien criminal could encounter on Earth. Bad news for them, good news for us. Dangerous news for Flynn.
Nothing will stop him, though. He will get this job done.
I guess hes part of me, Flynn. Ive been obsessing on aliens myself ever since I got abducted in 1985. I think about them all the time. I think I know a little bit about them. Or maybe more than a little bit.
If I had the chance, Id take Flynn Carrolls job in a heartbeat. I wish him well.
Natalie Chaidez (“V,” “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”) will provide the adapted screenplay for the pilot.
