Two months ago, word broke that J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot had secured the rights to a mysterious project called The Stops Along the Way to develop as a television miniseries. One of Rod Serling’s final works, details on the decades-old script have been virtually nil until now.
ComingSoon.net, however, has managed to uncover a printed article published in a 1997 issue of “Broadcasting & Cable” that offers a brief synopsis of the project from its initial sale to The Producers Entertainment Group.
“[‘The Stops Along the Way’ is] an overview of the 20th century from the perspective of a man about to enter the next millennium,” the article says of the project’s official logline. “The show’s main character, who represents the nation’s conscience, travels back and forth through the 20th century to take part in historic events.”
Mentioned in Serling’s final interview four months before his death, “The Stops Along the Way” is referenced by “The Twilight Zone” creator as featuring a “lovely script.” According to the 1997 article, however, what exists is actually four scripts for what was intended in the 1970s to become a television series.
