2012, in horror, has had its ups and downs.

I found that a lot of the titles that I wanted to consider for the list were initially released in 2011.  For that matter, three of the titles that did make the list were in the can for some time before finally receiving distribution or US distribution in 2012.

Three Clips for the Highly Recommended The Revenant Await You

This Friday kicks off a consistant stream of horror releases that will carry you well through the Halloween season.  While The Apparition hits theaters nationwide, a really solid, ambitious film is making its U.S. debut called The Revenant.

After a successful festival run, Kerry Prior’s flick opens in a limited theatrical run and on VOD on Friday and we have three clips to share with you.

The Revenant tells the story of a soldier and his slacker best friend who become zombies, and then use their newfound powers to become vigilante crime fighters with hilariously mixed results when their adventures become more complicated and bloody than expected.  Read our interview with the director here.

Exclusive Interview: Kerry Prior, Director of The Revenant

Shock caught up with Kerry Prior to talk about his new film, The Revenant, opening in limited release this Friday.

Prior previously worked on the effects side of the film business having contributed to the Phantasm franchise and Bubba Ho-Tep.

His directorial feature effort stars David Anders (The Vampire Diaries) and Chris Wylde (Descent).

The Revenant is the story of Bart (Anders) a fallen soldier who comes back from the dead as a revenant. Bart calls on his friend Joey (Wylde) to help him commandeer human blood to stave off decomposition.

After the jump, Prior dishes on the inspiration for the original concept, on-set antics and the rave reviews the film has received on the festival circuit.

Shock Till You Drop has been provided with an exclusive new trailer for The Revenant, the “vigilante zombie” flick opening August 24th in limited release and on VOD.

Starring David Anders (The Vampire Diaries) and Chris Wylde, the flick is written and directed by acclaimed visual effects expert D. Kerry Prior (Phantasm franchise, Starship Troopers).

Paladin has released a trailer for the horror-comedy The Revenant.  Starring David Anders (The Vampire Diaries) and Chris Wylde, the flick is written and directed by acclaimed visual effects expert D. Kerry Prior (Phantasm franchise, Starship Troopers).

Zombie Flick The Revenant Gets a U.S. Release

Lightning Entertainment has struck a deal with independent distribution company Paladin to handle the theatrical release of the award-winning horror comedy The Revenant.

Paladin plans to release the film theatrically in August in an initial 10 markets.  That same day, the film will be available as a premium V.O.D., as part of an event driven day-and-date Ultra VOD bow through Lightning
