Earlier today, ShockTillYouDrop spoke with Guillermo del Toro and Jorge Gutierez, the producer and writer of the animated film Book of Life, […]
Preview night at Comic-Con has come to an end and what was one of the highlights of the evening? Not standing in line for 40 minutes to get a Jason Edmiston print of the Joker (as played by Caesar Romero). Nope. The highlight was when I became a Jaeger pilot at the Legendary Pictures booth thanks to the modern-day alchemy that Oculus VR provides.
Legendary is offering Comic-Con attendees the Pacific Rim: Jaeger Pilot experience. I’ll let them explain what it is first before giving my first-hand thoughts…
Guillermo del Toro was down in Austin, Texas for the premiere of The Strain – which debuts July 13th on FX.
In speaking with the press – in this case, Buzzfeed – Del Toro said he is currently at work on a script for Pacific Rim 2 with Zak Penn. Huh? What? No Travis Beacham, screenwriter of the first film?
Legendary Pictures has an exciting slate of projects ahead, including this summer’s reboot of Godzilla (lots ‘o coverage coming for that one here at Shock tomorrow).
I spoke with Legendary head Thomas Tull this morning to discuss the Gareth Edwards film – full interview posting later this week – and, naturally, we couldn’t help but chat about a few projects. Namely, Trick ‘r Treat 2 and the possibility of Pacific Rim 2.
Some Blu-ray artwork for the collector’s edition of Pacific Rim has hit the web. As you’ll see, these are for the international release, but they may be similar to what we’ll get here in the U.S. On territory is going to get a Jaeger statue is well. No release date has been set for the DVD/Blu release.
Pacific Rim, directed by Guillermo del Toro, opened in July and has grossed over $400 million worldwide. The film recently passed the $100 million mark domestically recently.
Time will tell if we ever get a sequel.
The future of Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim is still uncertain. Having underperformed domestically, a sequel’s chances henge upon the film’s foreign box office, where it is luckily doing quite well. The latest box office numbers have Pacific Rim taking in another $53 million in foreign markets this weekend, of which $45 million is from China alone.
Del Toro and screenwriter Travis Beacham have spoken about elements that they’d like to see in the sequel previously, but now CraveOnline spoke with star Charlie Day about what he knows.
Imaginary Forces has brought online the opening and closing titles that the company created for Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. Check them out inside! If you haven’t seen the movie yet, there is an extra scene after those closing titles, so be sure to stay in your seat.
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes
In a final push to promote Pacific Rim, Warner Bros. and Legendary have released a nearly 3-minute long clip.
This one features the Jaeger known as Gypsy Danger, piloted by Charlie Hunnam’s character, and what happens to the giant mech in the wake of a kaiju fight.
The film begins screening tonight and we highly recommend you get your ass into the theater to check it out. It needs to be seen on the big screen.
Earlier this month, ShockTillYouDrop.com ventured to San Francisco for the Pacific Rim press day where we had a chance to sit down one-on-one with director Guillermo del Toro to talk about his first feature film since Hellboy II: The Golden Army.
His latest is another monster-filled romp that stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini and Clifton Collins, Jr. in a tale that pits a human resistance group against kaiju, terrifying, giant monsters that are rising out of the Pacific Ocean. The humans counter this threat with Jaegers, giant robots operated by two pilots.
Shock had spoken to Del Toro about the film previously on the film set; now that we had seen the film, we couldn’t pass up another opportunity to pick his brain more about the making of the project. Inside, he delves into the writing process, weighs in on the mass destruction we’ve been seeing in so many summer tentpoles today and how Pacific Rim stacks up to that, and discusses how the film plays to kids as well.
Warner Bros. Pictures has brought a new “Resistance” trailer online for Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim which you can watch inside!
Opening in 3D, 2D and IMAX theaters on Thursday night, the Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures release stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, Brad William Henke and Diego Klattenhoff.
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end.
If you’ve been wondering if there’s any actual human drama in Pacific Rim, I don’t blame you. Trailers, TV spots, posters and images have all focused mostly on the Jaeger and kaiju battles.
Well, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have released a fourth trailer that writer Travis Beacham took to Twitter to say is the “mostly people” trailer. Which is good. The film needs that push to remind the world that – hey – Charlie Hunnam is in the movie. Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Rinko Kikuchi and others, too.
Make no mistake, though, there’s still plenty of Jaegers and kaiju…and dubstep? Eh, whatever. Good trailer and great flick. Opening July 12th.
Warner Bros. and Legendary have released two more “character” posters for Pacific Rim. Like the two released yesterday morning, these focus on the Jaegers and the kaiju. Head inside for Australia’s Striker Eureka – a Jaeger whose pilots factor pretty prominently in the film – and the brute of a kaiju nicknamed Leatherback.
The Guillermo del Toro-directed film opens July 12th.
Also after the jump, check out two promo videos for the tie-in making-of book “Pacific Rim: Man, Machines & Monsters” which hits stores June 18th from Insight Editions and features a wealth of concept art and other goodies from Del Toro.
