Lucy Punch has been cast as the female lead in the upcoming FX series "Powers", Deadline reports. Punch will play the part of Detective Deena Pilgrim who, along with her partner, Detective Christian Walker, investigates superhero-related homicides.
The news was immediately confirmed by Brian Michael Bendis, co-creator of the "Powers" comic book series with artist Michael Avon Oeming.
"How's that for some news!" he wrote on his Twitter account, clearly pleased with the final decision.
Punch is best known for recent appearances in You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, Dinner for Schmucks and Take Me Home Tonight. She will also appear in this week's Bad Teacher opposite Cameron Diaz.
The part of Walker remains unannounced for the time being, but expect that to change soon as the pilot is gearing up to shoot in Chicago this summer.
"Powers" launched as a comic book series in 2004 from Image Comics and is currently published by Marvel's Icon imprint.
