Fox Orders Sixth Season of American Dad

Fox has ordered a sixth season of "American Dad," the animated series featuring security-obsessed CIA agent and devoted family man Stan Smith (Seth MacFarlane). Recently honored with an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Animated Program, "American Dad" airs Sundays (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT) on Fox.

The series continues to follow the twisted trials and tribulations of die-hard Republican and card-carrying NRA member Stan Smith and his hilariously odd family in Langley Falls, VA. Stan's not-so-smart wife Francine(Wendy Schaal) has an unfaltering loyalty that allows her to turn a blind eye toward Stan's unabashed arrogance. Stan constantly butts heads with his 18-year-old daughter Hayley (Rachael MacFarlane), who knows just how to push her father's buttons by being liberal in both her beliefs and in the number of hippie boyfriends she chooses to date. Hayley's 14-year-old brother is the geeky yet cocky Steve (Scott Grimes), a kid who seems to be on the constant verge of puberty but can't quite make sense of the opposite sex. The Smith household is rounded out by two rather unconventional members: Roger (Seth MacFarlane), the selfish and sarcastic space alien who lives in the attic and drinks like it's always happy hour, and Klaus (Dee Bradley Baker), an attention-starved goldfish with the brain of a German guy who is always willing to vocalize his opinions even if no one is listening.

"American Dad" is a 20th Century Fox Television production co-created by Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman. MacFarlane, Barker and Weitzman serve as executive producers alongside Rick Wiener and Kenny Schwartz.

Great news. Easily the best of MacFarlane's show. I don't know how people prefer Family Guy over this.

That's funny I was thinking the same thing about this show. How does anyone prefer this show to Family Guy? I rarely laugh at this one while I am usually rolling during Family Guy. However I've been meaning to give it another try, so maybe I will now.

American Dad is a lot better than Family Guy or the Clevland show. It just a smarter form of comedy, where as Family Guy is kind of dumb and has gotten old haver what 9 seasons?

Family Guy peaked several seasons ago and it has it's moments of hilarity, but usually the jokes just stem from being outrageously shocking and inappropriate. There's nothing wrong with that, but they aren't as consistantly funny anymore. Like any show, it took a few seasons to find its legs and it was cancelled just as that happened. But it lived on in reruns and DVD and cult followings remembering the good times, so Fox brought it back. And it's been good, but it's all been downhill.

Then came American Dad, and it has really grown into its own. I hated it at first, but it delivers more genuine laughs than Family Guy. It doesn't have all the baggage that Family Guy has, so it doesn't have to try so hard.

As for The Cleveland Show ... that is just terrible. I might get one grin per episode, but rarely a laugh outloud. It's blatant pandering and isn't even very good. It needs to be put down.

The point of all this is: Family Guy peaked and is sliding downhill while American Dad is just hitting its stride; and the Cleveland Show will never be as good as either (and will hopefully be cancelled this season).
