Jesse Alexander Boards NBC's Day One

Variety reports that ABC is exploring the worlds of TV news, politics and genius 11-year-olds in its latest batch of drama pilots, while it's apocalypse now for NBC.

NBC has greenlighted the post-apocalyptic drama pilot "Day One," from "Heroes" screenwriter Jesse Alexander ("Alias," "Lost").

The hourlong takes place following a catastrophic global event that destroys the world's infrastructure. The action centers on a small group of survivors.

ABC's "I, Claudia" centers on the world of a young prosecuting attorney who, viewers learn, will one day be a contender for the presidency.

In present-day "I, Claudia," however, lead character Claudia McIntire is more concerned about her love life than her career. John Scott Shepherd ("The Days") wrote and will executive produce "I, Claudia." Matt Gross is also an executive producer.

Also at ABC, "Grey's Anatomy" creator Shonda Rhimes is giving the TV news beat another try. Having twice attempted to develop a drama about war correspondents, Rhimes is now executive producer on "Inside the Box," set in a D.C. network news bureau. Richard E. Robbins wrote the script, which centers on a female news producer and her colleagues. Betsy Beers is also attached.

ABC additionally picked up an untitled pilot from Daniel Cerone ("Dexter"), about a Savannah police detective who discovers, after his father dies, that he has an 11-year-old brother with a genius IQ. The detective winds up partnering with his young brother, who helps him solve crimes.

This is such a sad list of ideas.

The first show is basically "Jericho"...which was cancelled....TWICE!! But this is the guy who wrote season one of Heroes so it could be better.

I doubt the second show will last. Its reminds me of that CANCELLED show "Jack & Bobby".

The last one with the 11 year old sounds like a bad sketch from a comedy show. i.e., MadTv, SNL, Robot Chicken, The Whitest Kids U Know

1. DAY ONE sounds awesome. I love the premise. Although Im hesitant to trust Alexander if he had anything to do with the demise of "Heroes." If they go a "Jericho" meets "Lost" route this could be awesome.

2. I CLAUDIA could be cool. I LOVE lawyer shows, but they either work or they don't. I just hope she's not litigating because she feels inclined to help people. So many lawyer shows fail with that concept. Go the route of "Justice" and you'll do fine.

3. INSIDE THE BOX could be cool as well. I like the idea of a show about the behind the scenes of the news. But only if they go a "Generation Kill" route but from the News' POV. It HAS to be real and show how much they screw everything up or else it will suck. If it makes the news look good, it will fail.

4. UNTITLED PILOT could fail quickly. Although I LOVE "Dexter," this premise sounds exactly like "Numbers." Unless it's more gritty and less CSI - to oppose "Numbers," - it will fail quickly.

People still trying to revive Jericho? Its had 2 chances and failed. Move on people!

From what Ive heard this series is based on book by a survivalist writer who wrote about a worldwide economic collapse and the general collapse of what we think of as the civilized world. No nukes in this one. If it is indeed based on the book. I think it was called Patriots or something. Never read it but heard alot about it. Many have described it sort of as a prequel to the Kevin Costner movie The Postman (that movie was set 20 years after a collapse). It could be pretty good. With the current headlines about the worst economy since the Depression, its very timely.

Hopefully they will avoid the mistakes of Jericho and not turn this into a political axe grinding tool against evil Republicans, or Democrats for that matter. Making 2nd short season of Jericho all about the evil neocons nuking America was a bit too much for alot of it viewers to swallow, hence ratings crashed.
