Arrested Reunion on Sit Down, Shut Up

April 15, 2008

Mitch Hurwitz has recruited three of his "Arrested Development" cast members -- Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Henry Winkler -- to voice roles in his animated Fox comedy "Sit Down, Shut Up," says The Hollywood Reporter.

"Sit Down, Shut Up" from Tantamount, Sony and Granada, centers on staff members at a high school who are preoccupied with their own needs and agendas, which means the students come second.

Fox greenlighted a table read of "Sit Down," based on the live-action Australian series, last month.

Also joining the voice cast are Cheri Oteri, Will Forte, Regina King, Nick Kroll, Tom Kenny and Maria Bamford.

I have seen the original Australian series and, without exaggerating, consider it to be the very worst comedy show I have ever seen. It only lasted a few episodes.

And I really don't understand why they bought the remake rights and title of a series that is forgotten even in Australia when it's a fairly generic premise (i.e. bad teachers).

I'm from Australia, and Craig is right. It did only last only a few episodes, 2 or 3 at the most, if I remember correctly. Its been quite a few years since any mention of it until now too

Yeah, but this American remake is from the guy who brought us "Arrested Development." That means it's going to be canceled after 2 or 3 episodes...but only because it's absolutely brilliant and on Fox.

In this case, that's an unfair jab. Fox killed itself to get viewers to watch AD, and kept it on the air long past the point justified by its ratings. This might be why networks ignore fans so much. If you're going to get knocked even when you go beyond the call, why bother?

I'd have to agree with Scarecrow. Fox has a nasty habit for seeming like they support an idea, only to give it a show time during more popular shows, etc. They canceled Family Guy, which sold so many DVDs that it was brought back to life. Futurama got the boot, only to be so popular that it has earned 4 movies. Firefly lasted one season, but was still so popular it earned a movie. Arrested Development was canceled, but is in talks for a movie. They have an itchy trigger finger when it comes to canceling good shows.

i would love a Tick movie, but only if done right - meaning the opposite of the live action series. i've always wanted a Tick fighting game to be made.

Kenn Begg is actually Rupert Murdoch.

On a more serious note. Do studio execs actually watch TV?? Didn't THEY think Arrested Development was funny. How many billions of dollars does one company need? Fox could've easily kept AD and still made silly amounts of money. The people who provide us with our arts and entertainments know nothing about it, just about the almighty dollar. There must be a line drawn somewhere between entertainment and riches.
