Green Light for Moore's Virtuality

April 13, 2008

The Hollywood Reporter says Fox has given the green light to "Virtuality," a two-hour pilot from "Battlestar Galactica" mastermind Ronald D. Moore.

The sci-fi project, from Universal Media Studios and producers Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun, is set aboard the Phaeton, Earth's first starship. It revolves around its crew of 12 astronauts on a 10-year journey to explore a distant solar system. To help them endure the long trip and keep their minds occupied, NASA has equipped the ship with advanced virtual-reality modules, allowing the crew members to assume adventurous identities and go to any place they want. The plan works flawlessly until a mysterious "bug" is found in the system.

"It's very much about what's fantasy and what's reality; what we do to escape our lives and what actually institutes our lives; are these things very different," UMS president Katherine Pope said.

"Virtuality" is a brainchild of Braun, who shaped up the idea with Berman, his producing partner at BermanBraun.

Moore brought in with him "Battlestar" writer/producer Michael Taylor. The two wrote the script and are executive producing the project with Berman and Braun.

The project is slated to begin production in July.

How original! Bet the makers of Star Trek are gutted they've never come up with any of those ideas... ditto Matrix, 2001, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah

I think this pretty much puts the last nail in the coffin for Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles then. People wondered if Fox would want it with two genre shows commissioned, Whedons Dollhouse and Abrams Fringe. Fox obviously hopes this is good enough to go to series or they wouldnt commission a pilot, and theres no way they would want four genre shows.

The matrix and star trek come together! With all you favorite serial cliches! Including, the mysterious government agent/terrorist!

I'll skip it thanks.... now for more heroes!

I wonder if they get stuck in that virtual world. If so, then it might be a bit like that .hack anime. And considering that's the only anime series I've ever found interesting, I think I'll check this out.

If it's from the BSG guy. does that mean the show will feature amateurish camerawork, bad actors and boring sripts that use lots of 9/11 paranoia and warflick cliches?

BSG is far from perfect (well actually it was perfect until the second half of season 2) but the camera work is phenomenal. handheld might not be your particular tastes, but its anything but ameteurish

Maybe this means Fox will air the show out of order. Change the broadcast day every two weeks. Show the pilot episode last. And then eventually cancel it for lack of ratings. cough cough firefly cough cough...

DerLanghaarige, Bad Actors?
Are you kidding me?
Seriously, you are an idiot, BSG has some of the best acting on television. Not just today, EVER.
I would love to know what kind of shows you enjoy if you call BSG boring. Desperate Housewives?
Ass.
