Rob Bowman ("The X-Files") has signed to direct the ABC pilot "Castle," reports Variety.

"Castle," from ABC Studios and Armyan Bernstein's Beacon Television, centers on a horror novelist who consults for the NYPD. Andrew Marlowe wrote the pilot and will executive produce with Bernstein and Laurie Zaks.

Bowman has worked on a number of ABC series in recent years, including "Day Break" and "Night Stalker." He directed dozens of "X-Files" episodes as well as the 1998 "X-Files" feature.

Day Break was one of those shows that was too smart for TV. Like Sports Night and Arrested Development. Glad to see one of the helmers from that show will be bringing new material to ABC. I'll be looking forward to "Castle."

Sports Night... Nice reference. That was a good show.

Does anyone remember when Comedy Central picked up Sports Night? They added a laugh track to all the episodes, basically ruining the show. It made for an insanely awkward viewing experience. Imagine "the office" if it was "filmed in front of a live studio audience".

Actually, that laugh track was always a part of the show. It slowly phased out toward the end of the series, but it wasn't Comedy Central who originally put the paugh track in.
