A&E has launched the official website with the new trailer for "The Andromeda Strain," a four-hour miniseries from executive producers Ridley Scott, Tony Scott, David W. Zucker and Tom Thayer. Directed by two-time Academy Award nominee Mikael Saloman (Backdraft, The Abyss), the script is written by Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Schenkkan (The Quiet American) and based on Michael Crichton's best-selling debut novel.

In the story, a deadly bacteria code named The Andromeda Strain is let loose after a U.S. government satellite crash-lands in Utah. The bacteria unleashes a lethal plague that wipes out an entire town leaving only two survivors - an old man and an infant to provide clues to immunizing the population. As the military tries to contain the spreading disaster, only a hastily assembled team of scientists can hope to find a cure and stop the Andromeda Strain from spreading.

Benjamin Bratt, Rick Schroder, Eric McCormack, Christa Miller, Andre Braugher, Daniel Dae Kim, Viola Davis and Ted Whittall star. The miniseries premieres this spring.

It looks like it has possibilities of being good, however, they have screwed up his books in the past. The book Timeline was amazing, than they used Paul walker and made it a piece of **** movie. So hopefully they dont screw this one up to.

If you've read the book, or seen the original movie, which is still good, you know this story is different than standard virus story.

it's better and a book written in the 70s. Outbreak has a virus, really only similiarity

If this goes well hopefully they will make a Sphere mini-series. Sphere's adaptation was hugely disappointing. It was faithful for the first half and then the second half was mostly original but was horrible. I understand they change things but what they did was garbage.

I read The Andromeda Strain about 10 years ago and back then it was quite a good read. The movie was a bit boring but this modern take seems to '24-ize' it. My TiVo will be set for this.

The "Andromeda Strain" movie wasn't a bit boring, it was A LOT boring. It's like they took the book and sucked all the suspense and excitement out of it. Hopefully this miniseries keeps all of that intact.

I thought the "Sphere" movie was adequate, but the book was clearly better.

I think it looks decent. the original film was great and nothing beats Michael's books.
