Beverly Hills, 90210 Spin-Off in the Works

March 13, 2008

The CW is developing a contemporary spin-off of Aaron Spelling's seminal 1990s teen soap "Beverly Hills, 90210," says The Hollywood Reporter.

"Veronica Mars" creator Rob Thomas is in talks to write the project, which has been put on the fast track by the network.

Details about the spin-off -- including which if any of the characters on the original series will make the transition to the new show -- remain sketchy. The CW is expected to make a decision whether to order a pilot by the end of the month.

The spin-off is being produced by CBS Paramount Network TV, which absorbed original series producer Spelling TV two years ago.

This would be the second spinoff from "90210," which aired on Fox from 1990-2000. "Melrose Place" had a successful seven-year run on Fox. It didn't feature any major characters from "90210."

90210 ended 8 years ago. Why all of a sudden are they doing this? Doesn't make any sense.

This figures. The CW wouldn't renew Veronica Mars, but they're going to do a spin-off of a show that ended in 2000. It doesn't get much stupider.

what do you mean it doesn't make sense? Hollywood has officially run out of ideas. Anything that was once remotely popular is making some sort of comeback. Rocky 6, Rambo 4, Indy 4, man how about straight-to-dvd? Lost Boys 2, Starship Troopers 3? Do we really need any of these?

This just exemplify's that the CW is desperate for ratings that aren't coming from Tyra Banks...

I thoguth they brried that beast of a show. I have horrible childhood flashbacks cause of 90210. I'd rather see a "Who's the Boss" spinoff than this eventual turd

I think that they will do a modern 90210 that will put the older ones with younger kids

Wow, deffinately wasn't expecting to see this headline today. 90210 was a Landmark in TV history, but come on....its 2008. Its really sad that Hollywood would try and bring this back in a new way. What about something new? If the CW keeps this crap up then their network might as well move to the internet.
