Variety says Warner Bros. is negotiating with Martin Campbell to direct Green Lantern, the live-action film based on the DC Comics hero.

Campbell last directed Casino Royale and recently wrapped the Mel Gibson starrer Edge of Darkness.

Green Lantern is written by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green. Berlanti had once been considered to direct. Instead, WB has attached him to direct This is Where I Leave You, the upcoming Jonathan Tropper novel which will be adapted by the author.

The "Green Lantern" was created in 1940 by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell. Hal Jordan introduced in 1959, a second-generation test pilot, is an ordinary man who was given the power ring and battery (lantern) by a dying alien named Abin Sur. When Abin Sur's spaceship crashed on Earth, the alien used his ring to seek out an individual to take his place as Green Lantern: someone who was "utterly honest and born without fear."

you should be shot for your commit spiderfreddie but who needs you really when The Dark Knight is the 2nd biggest movie ever to be created, Nolan is a genious and a god send to batman fans.

anyway, Campbell is great...Green Latern is difficult to adapt but lets see how he'll pull it off

I'll have to hear and see a little more from this before I get excited about it.If campbell goes after the whole real world plot like nolan did for his batman movies then it should turn out okay. But if he goes all PG and for the kids on us it will suck ass.

This is great news! Lets all hope he accepts. He can pull it off. He's actually a perfect fit. Goldeneye and Casino Royale were great combos of story and action which GL needs.

I like Campbell, and from what I read the first draft of the script was really promising.

Now, I hope that hiring a new director - even someone highly competent like Martin Campbell - won't put in jeopardy all the supposedly good work already accomplished.

And please, PLEASE, make it a real adult science fiction flick, and not some childish action comedy cop-out a la FF or Iron Man. Please.

Hmm would be interesting to see how they make this. Green lantern would be a difficult hero to bring to life. But then again maybe not.

Of course it won't be for an adult audience--family audience all the way. PG-13 at most.

On creatives comment... The hero is based on someone given a ring with powers by an alien.. Not exactly sure it can be made like Nolan did TDK

Taken was PG-13. I don't think people are giving PG-13 the credit it deserves, because some pretty non-kiddy materials been made at that rating.
