McAdams Cozies Up to Sherlock Holmes

September 25, 2008

The Hollywood Reporter says Rachel McAdams will star opposite Robert Downey Jr. in Sherlock Holmes, a reimagining of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's character that Guy Ritchie is directing for Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow.

McAdams plays Holmes' enigmatic love interest, Irene Adler, a character who appeared in Doyle's 1891 "A Scandal in Bohemia." While the character only appeared in that one story, McAdams' personage would return for any possible sequel.

The movie, which will begin shooting next month, takes its cue from a forthcoming comic book that producer Lionel Wigram wrote as a selling tool for a new take on the classic character. The concept sees Holmes as more adventurous and less stuffy than previous screen incarnations and mines more obscure character traits.

Downey will play Holmes while Mark Strong plays the main villain, Blackwood. Jude Law is portraying Holmes' colleague Watson.

Interesting, since McAdams was Favreau's first choice for Pepper Potts in Iron Man. I think she's really talented, so it should be fun watching her play off of Downey.

First, I hate Law!

However, I love RDJ and McAdams. So, it's okay then.

I'm sure this movie will rock, even if it's not really like the classic Sherlock Holmes people know. I suppose it's the Hollywood way to get the classic character closer to today's market.

rachel mcAdams is soooo hot. i have loved her since back in mean girls. she is the best portrayal of high school evil ever to portray the silver screen. I am surprised firecrotch didnt go for her back then instead the very oddlooking samantha ronson

oops forgot to mention. i know RDJ is funny and all but i hope there isnt too much humor in this. all the fast talk and smart remarks can get old especially for someone like RDJ. just watch his past movies...scanner darkly, kiss kiss bang bang, iron man and others. hopfully his humor/appeal doesnt fade like it did with Vince Vaughn. that guy was so funny now he's just annoying. TALK TALK TALK TALK,

Essam - Firecrotch couldn't have started sleeping with McAdams, because then I quite simply couldn't function on a day-to-day basis without thinking of them getting it on. With Ronson, I can pretend she's just a very confused boy.

is everyone who isnt british in this flick gonna be doing british accents?

because for some reason the thought of this chicks voice doing a british accent makes me want to bash my skull in w/ a brick.

she is very attractive, though. she is pretty hot.

not in Mean Girls, though, she was ugly as a blonde.

Sherlock Holmes was a 19th century prude, a junkie hooked on morphine and cocaine, and a closet homosexual. Yeah, I can see Robert Downey JR in this role totally. So Hollywood wants to make Holmes an action hero the likes of Indiana Jones, I take it. I'm not sure that's going to work. But anything to make a buck, right. Oh, and Miss McAdams? Total Canadian Fox!
