Epic

Sure there's not much original here, that's sort of to be expected with these type of youth-oriented adventure films. But it's well done, with better than normal characterization and some occasionally excellent voice acting with little phoned in. And that can't always be expected. Like a dandelion thistle, "Epic" is light and fluffy and quickly lost in the breeze.

Fast & Furious 6

Defying conventional wisdom, "Fast & Furious 6" shows the series isn't losing steam as it continues to feature spectacular action and a great cast. Plot holes and physics defying stunts are forgivable as it ends up being an action flick worth checking out in theaters.

The Hangover Part III

These movies are done. They are past done. Yes, "The Hangover" was a genuinely funny movie, but the warm feelings towards a well done piece of entertainment are not enough to make "Part III" anything more than rote. If your sense of humor is similar to Phillips', you will probably like it. Otherwise, it's just a slog, and hopefully one we never have to go through again.

Star Trek Into Darkness

It's hard not to wonder if the reason Abrams is so big on secrecy in the first place is because he knows his mystery box is empty. This is a "Star Trek" film designed for audiences distracted by shiny objects. Die hard fans -- and the moviegoing public in genearl -- deserve better than this shameful franchise entry.

Star Trek Into Darkness

There's no rule that a big summer movie should be any more than that, even if the filmmakers involved had managed that before. But it can't help but be a disappointment and that is what "Star Trek Into Darkness" is. Pretty and loud, but unimaginative and repetitive. Far from going where no one has gone before, this "Trek" is only interested in retreating along his old tracks.
