CS Video: Rosamund Pike and David Oyelowo on Jack Reacher
December 20, 2012
The chances of getting Tom Cruise to talk about his new movie Jack Reacher, based on Lee Child's 2005 novel "One Shot," or anything else for that matter, is pretty doubtful these days, which is why ComingSoon.net instead has interviews with
Rosamund Pike and David Oyelowo, two prolific actors who play key roles in the movie written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects).
The film revolves around a shooting in Pittsburgh that's pinned on a retired military sniper, and as the suspect lays in the hospital after a prison beating, he asks for Jack Reacher. Pike plays Helen Rodin, the suspect's attorney, while Oyelowo plays Emerson, the local police detective on the case, neither of whom know who this mysterious Reacher is until he shows up, a wanderer who they quickly learn is not a friend of the accused but someone who wants to make sure he gets due justice for his crime.
In the video interview below, ComingSoon.net spoke with the duo about how they found out about the movie and why they wanted to do it (hint: Tom Cruise), what a great team was involved with making the movie, whether they went back to read the book and how Christopher McQuarrie captured the spirit of Lee Child's writing and how humor played a large part in softening the blow of such a serious dramatic story.
They also talked briefly about their upcoming projects, Pike having just wrapped Edgar Wright's The World's End and Oyelowo talking about his planned biopic about boxer Sugar Ray Robinson (not Leonard as we mistook).
Jack Reacher opens on Friday, December 21. You can watch our video interview with writer/director Christopher McQuarrie here.
