A sizable hit for Universal Pictures earlier this year, Safe House grossed over $200 million worldwide. Now, The Hollywood Reporter brings word that the studio is considering a sequel and that they've brought aboard the original film's screenwriter, David Guggenheim, to work out a new screenplay.

The first film was directed by Daniel Espinosa and starred Denzel Washington as Tobin Frost, a dangerous renegade from the CIA, who comes back onto the grid after a decade on the run. When the South African safe house he's remanded to is attacked by mercenaries, a rookie operative (Ryan Reynolds) escapes with him. Together, the unlikely allies have to stay alive long enough to find out who wants them dead.

There's not yet confirmation as to whether or not Reynolds or Washington would return, though the trade suggests that studio is interested in getting them both back. Of course, given the ending of the original, one of their characters is easier to work into a sequel than the other.
