Summit Entertainment and Participant Media are in the process of setting Ric Roman Waugh to direct their upcoming Deepwater Horizon, Deadline reports.

The film, written by Matthew Sand, is based on The New York Times' article titled "Deepwater Horizon's Final Hour," published December 25, 2010 and written by David Barstow, David Rohde and Stephanie Saul (click here to read the article). The film is said to focus on the courage of those who worked on the oil rig and the final minutes leading up to the disaster that ultimately led to great devastation that will forever be remembered.

Roman Waugh, who launched his career as a stuntman, will next direct the Dwayne Johnson thriller Snitch, also for Summit.
