Emma Watson has signed on for a new project in the form of Sofia Coppola's next. Variety reports that the Harry Potter actress will headline The Bling Ring, based on the true story of celebrity burglaries committed by a group of teens at the end of the last decade.
Coppola will both write and direct the project with Watson starring as one of the thieves. In real life, the crimes were committed by a group of six, who, over the course of about a year, stole roughly $3 million from Hollywood celebrities like Paris Hilton, Megan Fox and Lindsay Lohan. The teens were caught in 2009 and, last year, the story was the subject of a Lifetime telefilm (also titled The Bling Ring), starring Jennifer Grey.
Though names and specific details were changed for the Lifetime version, there's no word yet on how loosely Coppola plans to adapt the material.
