A few months back, it was reported that Paramount may be eyeing director Doug Liman's long-in-development "untitled moon movie" Luna, and according to Variety, it's now official and the film is greenlit and put on the fast-track at Paramount Pictures with David Ellison's Skydance Pictures and New Regency onboard to co-financing.

Liman has been developing the film for a long time--in fact, he spoke to ComingSoon.net about it both around the time of Jumper and again when we interviewed him for Fair Play--writing an original draft with John Hamburg then reworking it with Simon Kinberg, who will co-produce the film with Allison Shearmur.

Originally, Jake Gyllenhaal was attached to star in the movie about renegade scientists who build a spaceship from spare parts to steal an energy source from the moon, but Liman has had meetings with the likes of Bradley Cooper, Chris Evans and Andrew Garfield. As it's now expected to be the director's next project, we can probably expect some casting announcements soon.
